Calf Care Recommendations
- Feed 2 to 4 quarts of colostrum twice daily for the first three days. Ensure that one colostrum feeding of 2 to 4 quarts occurs within two hours of birth.
- Begin feeding milk replacer on day four.
- Begin feeding Calf-Manna® free-choice in the first week.
- Begin feeding calf starter-grower after Calf-Manna® intake reaches 1 pound per calf per day.
- Calves can be weaned from milk replacer successfully when intake of calf starter/grower reaches 2 pounds daily.
- At approximately 6 to 8 weeks of age, calves can be transitioned to a grower ration. Feed grower or starter ration free-choice up to 4 to 5 pounds per head per day up to about 4 months of age.
- Begin feeding a heifer developer feed at 4 months of age.
- Feed minerals and salt beginning at 10 weeks of age.
- Provide fresh, clean water at all times.
